Pinus johannis in Charcas, San Luís Potosí

Mexican Pines

"To sum up, everyone who has collected recently in Mexico is convinced that Martínez is a rather conservative botanist and that in the future more varieties and even perhaps more species will be described from Mexico."

N.T. Mirov (1967)

Mexico has more pine species than any other country. I am currenty recognizing 49 species in Mexico. This is more than Farjon and Styles (1997) but fewer than Perry (1991).
Both subgenera are represented in Mexico, as are three of four sections and six of eleven subsections.
